It’s a crap day for climate in Australia

25 Mar

I am in a black mood this afternoon.

A bit of technical background: the Labor Party have folded the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, into the Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education, or DIICCSTR. Greg Combet is still the Minister for Climate Change… but I bet that after a few resigned glasses of red wine this evening he can’t remember what the acronym stands for.

…Or what the Department stands for, for that matter.

They have also taken the ‘Energy Efficiency’ part of the old dept and rolled it onto the Department of Resources, Energy, Tourism etc etc. And given it to Gary Gray. Who is a Climate denialist, and founder of the Lavoisier Group.

I used to defend the Government.

‘They’ve done some good things. And they’ve had to put up with a very unstable hung parliament, and a load of bullshit, psychotic criticism from Abbot’.

But no more – this insult to one of the biggest problems the world faces has broken the back of my feeble, ailing support. I don’t care any more. They can all go to hell.

‘At least at this rate they are screwing everything up too much to make any significant change’, you might say.

But what’s the alternative? Competent and evil?

It’s over – there is no hope for our country. We face another 6 months of goalless and panic-stricken scrabbling, followed by a landslide change and the political victory of a man who s nothing short of a national embarrassment.

I am so ashamed of our country. What are we doing? We’re ignoring climate change, building mines in the barrier reef, destroying the Kimberley, giving the middle classes welfare and cutting pensions, shaming women for holding office, incarcerating refugee children, fishing the seas til they’re empty, testing children instead of educating them… And we are demanding that it gets worse, not better.

I don’t want to be part of it. I want to build a hut in the wilderness and never read a paper again.

future home.

future home.

What about fracking? The fracking idiots are fracking up our water supply, fracking up our prime agricultural land, fracking our future!

Good point. I’m sure my list was far from comprehensive! The common denominator seems to be short-sighted money grubbing and/or vote buying.
